Illustration for Parliament Bill

In this part of the bill, you need to understand what some words mean. The term 'electorate and community office' refers to a place where a member of Parliament works with their community using money given by Parliament. This includes the office building and the area around it, like the car park and footpath. You also need to know what a 'parliamentary meeting' is. This includes when the House of Representatives is sitting or when a committee is meeting. A 'Police officer' is a constable, which is defined in the Policing Act 2008. Another term is 'specified offence', which refers to a particular type of offence described in section 164. You should be aware of what these terms mean as you read through this part of the bill. These definitions will help you understand the rest of the bill.
