Illustration for Parliament Bill

The Speaker can ask the Public Service Commissioner to do certain jobs for a parliamentary agency. You need to know the Public Service Commissioner is a person appointed under the Public Service Act 2020. If the Commissioner agrees, they must do these jobs in a way that suits the agency. The Commissioner's jobs are listed in section 44(b) to (e) of the Public Service Act 2020. When the Commissioner does these jobs for the agency, they must treat the agency like a government department. The head of the agency is like the boss of that department. The Public Service Commissioner has to follow the rules that apply to government departments when working with the parliamentary agency. This means they must respect the agency's role and its separation from the rest of the government. The Commissioner's role is important in helping the agency work properly.
