This page is about a bill. That means that it's not the law yet, but some people want it to be the law. It could change quickly, and some of the information is just a draft.

Illustration for Parliament Bill

When making decisions about salaries, allowances, and services for members of Parliament, you need to think about some important principles. The Remuneration Authority, the Speaker, and the Minister Responsible for Ministerial Services must consider these principles when making decisions under section 71, section 84, section 88, or section 95. These principles include being consistent with the expenses and services that are already allowed, and making sure that Parliament is seen as honest and trustworthy. You also need to think about being open and transparent, and making sure that the decisions are fair to everyone, including the taxpayer. The decisions should also consider the needs of members with disabilities, and make it easy to deliver the funding and services in a simple and efficient way.
