When you hear the term family member, it refers to someone who is related to a person, called A. You are a family member of A if you are A's spouse or partner. You are also a family member if you are A's dependent child or adult dependant. You can be a family member if you are a caregiver who looks after A, or A's spouse, partner, dependent child, or adult dependant, because they have a disability. The care you provide must be necessary for A to do their job properly. You can find more information about this by looking at the related legislation. This helps you understand who is considered a family member according to the law.
