The Remuneration Authority decides how much money former Prime Ministers can get for travel expenses within New Zealand. You might be wondering who gets these expenses - it's people who used to be Prime Minister and their spouses or partners. The Authority's decision is important because it says who gets paid and how much they get. The Remuneration Authority's decision also applies to the spouse or partner of a former Prime Minister who has passed away. They can still get expenses, even if they remarry or re-partner, until they die. The Authority's decision is a type of law, and you can learn more about how these laws are published by looking at Part 3 of the Legislation Act 2019. When the Remuneration Authority makes a decision, it says who gets travel expenses and how much they get. This decision is based on the rules, and it helps make sure everyone knows what to expect. The decision is an important part of how the law works, and it affects people who used to be Prime Minister and their families.
