The Parliamentary Service has some main jobs. You will see what these jobs are if this bill becomes law. The Parliamentary Service will help the House of Representatives and its members with administrative tasks. It will also pay salaries and allowances to members. The Parliamentary Service will look after expenses and services, except for some travel and accommodation expenses, as outlined in Part 4, but not those determined under section 88. It will keep Parliament and the people in it safe. The Parliamentary Service will provide library and information services to some people, including members and officers of Parliament. It will also teach the public about Parliament and help them get involved. In this bill, an officer of Parliament means an Ombudsman, the Parliamentary Commissioner for the Environment, or the Controller and Auditor-General.
