This page is about a bill. That means that it's not the law yet, but some people want it to be the law. It could change quickly, and some of the information is just a draft.

Parliament Bill

Clerk and Office of the Clerk - Clerk - Deputy Clerk

109: Deputy Clerk may perform Clerk’s functions, duties, and powers

You could also call this:

"Deputy Clerk can do Clerk's job if they are away or can't work"

You are looking at a proposed change to the law. This change is about what happens when the Clerk is not available. The Deputy Clerk can do the Clerk's job if the Clerk's position is empty or if the Clerk is away and cannot work. You need to know that the Clerk has certain jobs and powers given to them by law or by the rules of the House of Representatives. If the Clerk is away, they might not be able to do these jobs or use these powers. The Deputy Clerk can step in and do the Clerk's job if this happens. If the Deputy Clerk does the Clerk's job, it is taken as proof that they are allowed to do so, as stated in this proposed law or in section 108. This means the Deputy Clerk has the authority to do the Clerk's job in certain situations. You can think of it like a backup plan to make sure things keep running smoothly.
