Illustration for Parliament Bill

You will have a new rule about how often the Speaker must make a decision. The Speaker must make this decision once in each term of Parliament, as stated in section 84(1). The Speaker must talk to the Remuneration Authority and the Minister Responsible for Ministerial Services at the start of each term. You will know when a decision is no longer in force. A decision stops being in force when the Speaker makes a new one to replace it, following the rules. This new decision will be made in accordance with subsection (1). The Speaker has to follow these rules when making decisions. They must make a decision once per term and talk to the other authorities. This is how the Speaker's decisions will work under the proposed new law.
