The Remuneration Authority will decide how much money to pay for travel and accommodation expenses within New Zealand for certain people. You will want to know that this includes travel expenses for family members of members and eligible candidates. The Authority will also decide on accommodation expenses for Ministers and Parliamentary Under-Secretaries. The Remuneration Authority must consider how to use public money efficiently when making these decisions. You should be aware that the Authority's decisions will be based on the need for people to attend to matters associated with leaving Parliament or passing on ministerial responsibilities. The Authority's decisions will be published as secondary legislation, which is explained in Part 3 of the Legislation Act 2019. The Remuneration Authority's decisions will be in addition to the accommodation expenses already determined by the Speaker under section 84(1)(a). You can find more information about how these decisions are made and what they cover. The Authority's role is to make sure that public money is used in a way that is efficient and effective.
