When you name a road for the first time or change its name, the council must send a copy of this decision to the Registrar-General of Land and the Surveyor-General as soon as possible. You can find more information about changes to this rule in the Local Government Act 1974 Amendment Act 2004. The council does this to keep everyone informed about the road's new name.
