517N: Lodging of objections

"How to write and lodge an objection to a transfer proposal in writing"

Illustration for Local Government Act 1974

If you want to object to a transfer proposal, you must do it in writing. You have to give your objection to the principal administrative officer of the local authority within a certain time frame, which is stated in a notice issued under section 517M. Your objection must also say why you are allowed to object under section 517K.

You need to explain why you are objecting and give enough details so that the Local Government Commission and other parties understand the issues. If you are a scheme user who operates a drainage or water supply system, you must describe that system and sign your name. You also need to state your name and the address of the property if you are a scheme user who is objecting.

Your objection must be specific and clear, stating the grounds on which you are objecting, as required by the rules. This means you have to provide enough information so that everyone involved understands your concerns. You can find more information about this process in section 517K and section 517M.
