Illustration for Local Government Act 1974

If you own a pipe, drain, or other apparatus under a road, the council can ask you to change it. They will send you a written notice telling you what to do. If you do not make the changes within a reasonable time, the council can do it for you. The council will pay for the changes and any damage that happens because of them. You can get this money back from the council if you are affected by the changes.
