505B: Petition to make declaration

Illustration for Local Government Act 1974

You can ask your local council to make a declaration about a land drainage area. This happens when most of the voters in that area ask the council to make the declaration, as stated in section 504(1). They must give the council a document with all the petitions at least one working day before a certain date, mentioned in section 504(5).

You are considered to have made a valid petition if you sign a document that clearly says you want the council to make the declaration, as stated in section 504(1). You must also write your name and address next to your signature, so the council can check if you are a voter and if you live in the relevant area. This is how you can make sure your petition is counted.
