The Minister can issue one or more Government policy statements at any time. You need to know that the purpose of these statements is to say what the Government wants to achieve and what is important to them when it comes to mining Crown owned minerals. The Minister will make sure the statement helps achieve the purpose of the Crown Minerals Act 1991 when they issue it.

The Minister can talk to anyone they think is appropriate before issuing a statement. You should be aware that people who make decisions under this Act must consider the Government policy statements. The Minister has to be satisfied that the statement is helpful before they issue it.

When the Minister issues a Government policy statement, it is available for you to see, and you can find out more about the changes to this Act through the Crown Minerals Amendment Act 2025. The Minister's role is important in making these statements. You can learn more about how this works by looking at the Act.
