"What a compliance notice must tell you when you're breaking a rule"

Illustration for Crown Minerals Act 1991

When you get a compliance notice, it must tell you that the chief executive or an enforcement officer thinks you are breaking a rule in the Crown Minerals Act 1991 or the regulations. They must have good reasons for thinking this. The notice must also say which rule you are breaking and how you are breaking it.

You will be given a time limit to fix the problem, which could be something you are doing or something that is causing the problem. The notice might tell you what you can do to fix the problem or stop it from happening.

The compliance notice can include suggestions on how to fix the issue, such as what measures you can take to stop breaking the rule or what to do to prevent it from happening again. You can find more information about this in the Crown Minerals (Decommissioning and Other Matters) Amendment Act 2021 and the original act.
