A Government Policy Statement, or GPS, is a document that can include the Government's goals for mining Crown owned minerals. You can think of these goals as what the Government wants to achieve in the medium to long term. The GPS can also outline the Government's plans and priorities to reach these goals.

The GPS can cover all types of Crown owned minerals or just some of them. It can also treat different types of minerals, areas of the country, and activities differently. This means the Government can have different plans for different minerals or areas.

You can find more information about how the GPS was created by looking at the Crown Minerals Amendment Act 2025, which is the law that made some changes to the Crown Minerals Act.
