Illustration for Crown Minerals Act 1991

If you have a petroleum mining permit or licence, you must tell the chief executive when you expect to stop production. You do this by submitting a notice of expected cessation at certain times, such as when asked by the Minister or when certain events happen. You must also include information about when you think the field will stop producing and any other required details.

When you actually stop production, you must notify the chief executive as soon as possible, and no later than 20 working days after you stop. This is called a notice of cessation. You can find more information about the rules for petroleum mining permits and licences in the Crown Minerals Act 1991 and the Petroleum Act 1937.

You must follow these rules if you have a permit or licence granted under these Acts, and you must give the chief executive the required notices at the right times.
