Illustration for Arms Act 1983

If you are a licensed dealer, a police officer can seize arms items and ammunition from you if they have a warrant. The police officer can enter your property to do this and use force if necessary. They must show you the warrant and prove they are a police officer. If the police seize arms items and ammunition, they can keep them for as long as they like or they can become the property of the government. This can happen according to section 14. The government will pay you compensation if they keep the items. The police can only do these things if they follow the rules. You have rights, and the police must respect them. The Minister of Finance will pay compensation from a Crown Bank Account.
