Illustration for Arms Act 1983

The responsible Minister must establish an Arms Advisory Group, which includes a chairperson and up to 8 other members. You can think of the advisory group as a team that helps the Minister make good decisions about firearms. The team's main job is to advise the Minister on how to keep people safe and control firearms. The advisory group gives advice on things like laws and policies about firearms in New Zealand. They also think about how to promote firearms safety. The Minister asks the advisory group for help to achieve the goals of the Arms Act. The advisory group can look at any issue related to firearms in New Zealand and provide advice on it. This helps the Minister make informed decisions about firearms.
