Illustration for Arms Act 1983

You cannot have a pistol or restricted weapon unless you have a special licence. You can have one if you are a dealer with a licence that says you can have a pistol or restricted weapon. This licence must be specific to the pistol or restricted weapon you want to have, and you must have a permit to import or possess it, which can be found under section 18 or section 35. You can also have a pistol or restricted weapon if you have a firearms licence that says you can have one. This licence must also be specific to the pistol or restricted weapon you want to have, and you must have a permit to import or possess it, which can be found under section 18 or section 35. If you work for a licensed dealer, this rule does not apply to you when you are doing your job and helping with dealer activities, as long as you are qualified under section 11. If you break this rule, you commit an offence under section 50.
