"How long your firearms licence lasts"

Illustration for Arms Act 1983

Your firearms licence starts on the date it says on the licence. It expires after a certain time, unless it is revoked or surrendered earlier. You can have a licence for 5 or 10 years, depending on your situation. If you are a visitor to New Zealand, your licence might only last for 1 year. It could also expire on an earlier date, as specified on the licence. If you leave New Zealand, your licence will expire when you go. The length of your licence depends on what you wrote on your application form. You might get a shorter licence if you said you are a visitor. Your licence will expire when it says it does, or when you leave the country, whichever happens first.
