If you have a firearm or ammunition, you must give your full name, address, and date of birth to a Police officer who asks for it. You need to do this if the officer is in uniform or shows you proof they are a Police officer. If you refuse to give your details or give false information, a Police officer can caution you. If you keep refusing to give your correct details, the officer can arrest you without a warrant. You can get in trouble if you refuse to give your details or give false information when asked. This can lead to a fine of up to $10,000 or imprisonment for up to 6 months. You can be charged with an offence if you willingly give false details or refuse to give your details without a good reason. The Police officer can demand your details under this law, and you must comply. You must tell the truth when giving your details to the Police officer.
