You can follow national codes of practice to comply with the NEDS. This is one way water service providers can meet NEDS requirements. You are treated as having complied with the NEDS if you follow a national code of practice. You may choose to follow a national code of practice, but you do not have to. If you do follow a national code of practice, you must be treated as having met the NEDS requirements it relates to. This helps water service providers meet the NEDS requirements when they carry out work. You can find more information about this in sections 97I and 97J.

97HEffect of national codes of practice

  1. This section and sections 97I and 97J provide for national codes of practice as a way in which water service providers may comply with the NEDS (or, where applicable, ensure that work that a person carries out for or on behalf of a water service provider meets the requirements of the NEDS).

  2. For the purposes of complying with the NEDS, a water service provider—

  3. may, but is not required to, act in accordance with a national code of practice; and
    1. that acts in accordance with a national code of practice must be treated as having complied with the NEDS requirement to which the code relates.
