Illustration for Water Services Act 2021

You must follow rules when connecting infrastructure to a water network. A water service provider cannot connect infrastructure to their network unless it meets the design and performance requirements in the NEDS. The connection must also follow the NEDS connection requirements and any applicable water services bylaw. You should know that a water service provider does not have to make a connection even if it meets these rules. The provider is in charge of deciding whether to allow a connection to their network. They must ensure the connection follows the rules. The rules for connecting infrastructure to a network are outlined in the Local Government (Water Services) (Repeals and Amendments) Act 2025 and the NEDS.
