You can think of a compliance officer as someone who checks if people are following the rules. They can use their powers for several reasons. They want to make sure you are safe when drinking water. They check if water suppliers are doing their job properly. They also make sure local authorities keep their promises about managing water sources. If there's a big risk to public health, they take action. They investigate if something has contaminated the water. They look into crimes related to water safety. They can take legal action if someone breaks the rules.
