Competition studies

50: Commission may carry out competition study

You could also call this:

"The Commission can study how competition is working to help the public."

Illustration for Commerce Act 1986

The Commission can do a study to see how well competition is working if they think it is a good idea for the public. You can find out about this study because the Commission must put a notice in the Gazette. The notice tells you what the study is about and when the final report will be ready for you to see.

The Commission must make a copy of the notice available to the public. They can change the notice, but they have to follow the same steps as before. If they want to cancel the notice, they can do this by putting another notice in the Gazette.

You can learn more about how the Commission makes decisions by looking at the Commerce Amendment Act 2018, which is a law that helps the Commission do its job.
