51B: Preparation of competition report

You could also call this:

"The Commission writes a report about what they learned from studying competition and suggests ways to make things better."

Illustration for Commerce Act 1986

The Commission has to prepare a report about what they found out from their competition study. You can think of this report as a record of their findings. The Commission can also make suggestions in the report if they want to.

The Commission's suggestions can be about many things, such as changing laws or how the government does things. They can also suggest that people or organisations in charge of certain industries change what they do. This can include making more information available or researching certain topics.

The Commission might even suggest that people in a particular industry change how they behave. They prepared this report as part of their job, as stated in the Commerce Act 1986, which was amended by the Commerce Amendment Act 2018. You can find more information about this in the act. The report is an important part of the Commission's work.
