Illustration for Commerce Act 1986

The Commission can make a special set of rules called a Commission service quality code. This code is about the quality of services that companies provide to you. The Commission can make this code on its own or because the Minister asked them to. The Commission can only make this code if there is no other code already in place for that service, or if the existing code is not good enough. If the Commission wants to make a new code, they must tell the Minister why they think it is necessary and which part of the law applies to their decision. A Commission service quality code is a type of secondary legislation, which means it has to follow certain rules for publication, as outlined in Part 3 of the Legislation Act 2019.
