Illustration for Commerce Act 1986

The Commission has to check if suppliers are following the rules set out in regulations or in a Commission service quality code. You can think of the Commission like a referee, making sure everyone plays by the rules. When the Commission checks, it can consider how big or complicated a supplier is, or what kind of water services they provide.

The Commission can ask a supplier to provide information to check if they are following the rules, and this can include a written statement saying if they have complied, a report signed by an auditor, or other information to help the Commission decide. The Commission can also ask for a certificate signed by a board member or the person in charge of the supplier, to confirm that the information provided is true and accurate. The Commission has powers under section 98 that it can use to get this information.
