Animal Welfare Act 1999

Animal exports

42: Application for animal welfare export certificate

You could also call this:

"Apply for a certificate to export animals from New Zealand"

You can apply to the Director-General for an animal welfare export certificate, unless section 41 says you cannot. You make this application on a form provided by the Director-General and it must have the information the Director-General needs. You also need to pay a fee if one is required.

You must apply at least 20 working days before the animal is set to leave New Zealand. The Director-General can allow you to apply later if something unexpected happens. If your application is missing some important information, the Director-General can ask you to fix it.

If you fix the application at least 20 working days before the animal leaves, the Director-General will then deal with it. If you do not fix it on time, the Director-General can still deal with it if they think there is enough time to consider it properly. You can find more information about restrictions in section 41.
