64Membership

  1. The National Animal Ethics Advisory Committee consists of not more than 10 members.

  2. Those members comprise—

  3. a chairperson appointed by the Minister; and
    1. such other members (not exceeding 9) as are appointed by the Minister in accordance with subsection (3).
      1. The Minister must, in making appointments under subsection (2)(b), have regard to—

      2. the public interest in relation to the manipulation of animals in research, testing, and teaching; and
        1. the need for the Committee to possess knowledge and experience in the following areas:
          1. veterinary science:
            1. medical science:
              1. biological science:
                1. the commercial use of animals in research and testing:
                  1. ethical standards and conduct in respect of animals:
                    1. education issues, including the use of animals in schools:
                      1. the manipulation of animals in research, testing, and teaching:
                        1. environmental and conservation management:
                          1. animal welfare advocacy:
                            1. any other area the Minister considers relevant; and
                            2. the need for a balance between those members who are currently involved in research, testing, and teaching and those members who are not so involved.
