Animal Welfare Act 1999

Codes of welfare

74: Recommendation to Minister

You could also call this:

"The National Animal Welfare Advisory Committee tells the Minister if a new animal welfare rule is a good idea."

The National Animal Welfare Advisory Committee looks at a draft code of welfare and decides if they want to recommend it to the Minister. You can think of the Minister like a person in charge who makes big decisions. The Committee must make this decision as soon as they can after they stop taking submissions from people. The Committee's recommendation comes with a report that explains why they made their decision. The report also talks about any big disagreements people had with the code, and any disagreements the Committee members had with each other. The Committee sends a copy of their decision and report to the person who wrote the draft code.
