Animal Welfare Act 1999

Use of animals in research, testing, and teaching

81: Effect of this Part

You could also call this:

"What this part of the law means for using animals in research, testing, or teaching"

You can use animals in research, testing, or teaching if you follow the rules in this Part of the Animal Welfare Act. This Part does not stop you from using animals in these ways, as long as you do it according to the rules. The rules in Parts 1 and 2 of the Act still apply if you use animals in research, testing, or teaching in a way that is not allowed by this Part.

You must follow the conditions of any project approval if you want to use animals in research, testing, or teaching. If you use animals in a way that is not allowed by this Part or by the conditions of a project approval, then the rules in Parts 1 and 2 of the Act will still apply to you. This Part only applies to using animals for research, testing, or teaching.

This Part does not apply to using animals for other purposes that are not research, testing, or teaching. You can find more information about the rules for using animals in research, testing, or teaching in this Part of the Act. The rules in this Part are in addition to the rules in Parts 1 and 2 of the Act, which you can find at Parts 1 and 2.
