Animal Welfare Act 1999

Use of animals in research, testing, and teaching - Reviews of code holders and animal ethics committees

105: Independent reviews

You could also call this:

"Regular checks to ensure animal welfare codes are being followed"

You need to have an independent review of each code holder and each animal ethics committee. This review must be done in a certain way. You have to follow the rules in this section when you do the review.

If you are a new code holder, you will have an independent review within two years after your code is approved and published in the Gazette. This applies if you are a new code holder or if you have not been a code holder in the last two years. The review will check how you are doing.

If you want to keep being a code holder, you will need to have another independent review before your current approval runs out. This is so you can keep following the code of ethical conduct. You must complete the review before the end of your current approval period.
