Conservation Act 1987

Marginal strips

24C: Purposes of marginal strips

You could also call this:

"Protecting areas next to water for conservation and fun activities"

The law says marginal strips are held for several purposes. You can think of marginal strips as areas of land next to water, like rivers or lakes. Marginal strips are used for conservation, which means protecting and taking care of the environment, and this includes maintaining the water and the life in it.

You can use marginal strips to get to the water, like a river or lake, and they can also be used for fun activities like walking or fishing. The law wants to make sure marginal strips are protected so you can enjoy them.

The law also says marginal strips are for maintaining good water quality, protecting aquatic life, and controlling harmful species that might be in the water, as well as protecting the marginal strips themselves and their natural values.
