Sports Fish and Game Councils - New Zealand Fish and Game Council

26H: Crown entity

You could also call this:

"What is a Crown entity, a special group that is part of the government?"

The New Zealand Fish and Game Council is a Crown entity for certain purposes under the Public Finance Act 1989, which you can find at https://legislation.govt.nz/act/public/1986/0120/latest/link.aspx?id=DLM162719. This means it is an organisation listed in Schedule 4 of that Act. You can think of it like a special kind of group that is part of the government.

The Council is also a public entity, which is defined in section 4 of the Public Audit Act 2001. This Act says that the Auditor-General is in charge of checking the Council's finances. The Auditor-General is like a watchdog who makes sure the Council is using its money correctly.

As a public entity, the Council has to follow certain rules and guidelines, and the Auditor-General helps to make sure it is doing so. You can learn more about the Public Audit Act 2001 and its role in overseeing public entities like the New Zealand Fish and Game Council.
