Control of dogs

26ZZN: Supply of information in relation to ownership of dogs

You could also call this:

"Keeping dog owner information private"

When you give information about owning a dog to a territorial authority under section 26ZZM(2)(b)(i), the Department of Conservation must keep it private. This information includes the name and address of the dog's owner, and the address where the dog is usually kept. The Department can only share this information with certain people.

If someone like a constable, an officer of the Department, or an animal welfare inspector asks for this information for a lawful reason, the Department must give it to them. This also applies to territorial authorities, societies that prevent cruelty to animals, and registered veterinary surgeons. You can find more information about animal welfare inspectors in the Animal Welfare Act 1999.
