Conservation Act 1987

Control of dogs

26ZW: Matters to be taken into account in relation to declaration

You could also call this:

"What to consider when deciding dog rules on conservation land"

When the Minister decides whether to publish a notice about controlling dogs on conservation land, you need to consider several things. The Minister looks at why the land is being used and what rules apply to it, such as a conservation management strategy or plan. You also think about the wildlife on the land and how dogs might hurt or disturb them, as well as how close the land is to towns and cities and whether people like to visit with their dogs.

The Minister thinks about other places where people can take their dogs and whether declaring this land as a dog area would affect people who do not have dogs. You consider how this might change how people use the land for fun and whether it would be a problem for people without dogs. The Minister uses a section 26ZS notice to make decisions about controlling dogs on conservation land.

You look at all these factors to make a decision about controlling dogs on the land, including the types of wildlife that live there and how dogs might affect them.
