Conservation Act 1987

Miscellaneous

41: Offences in respect of warranted officers and fish and game rangers

You could also call this:

"Respecting conservation officers: what you can and can't do"

If you resist or obstruct a warranted officer or fish and game ranger, you commit an offence. You also commit an offence if you fail to comply with their requirements without a lawful excuse. You must tell the truth when speaking to them.

If you give false or misleading information to a warranted officer or fish and game ranger, you commit an offence. You commit an offence if you pretend to be a warranted officer or fish and game ranger. This is against the law in New Zealand, as stated in the Conservation Act 1987, which was amended by the Conservation Amendment Act 1994.

You should be honest and respect their authority when interacting with them. They have important jobs to protect the environment and wildlife. You can learn more about the Conservation Act 1987 and the Conservation Amendment Act 1994 on the New Zealand legislation website.
