Conservation Act 1987

Sports Fish and Game Councils - New Zealand Fish and Game Council

26HA: National fish and game compliance and law enforcement policy

You could also call this:

"Rules for fish and game rangers to enforce the law and protect wildlife"

The New Zealand Fish and Game Council can develop a national policy about how fish and game rangers enforce the law. You need to know this policy can include things like authorising rangers to give infringement notices, and how they issue those notices. It can also cover how rangers use their other powers to make sure people follow the Conservation Act or the Wildlife Act.

The Minister can approve this policy by putting a notice in the Gazette. If the Minister does not approve a policy, the Director of the New Zealand Fish and Game Council cannot let rangers give infringement notices. Some parts of the law, like sections 26I, 26R, and 26X, will not apply if there is no approved policy.

The policy is developed according to section 26C, and it relates to the Wildlife Act 1953, which you can find on the legislation website. You can also look at sections 51W and 26C for more information about infringement notices and policy development. The Minister's approval is important for the policy to be effective.
