Conservation Act 1987

Freshwater fisheries - Indigenous freshwater fish

26ZHC: Director-General may authorise taking of indigenous fish on application

You could also call this:

"Someone can take native fish if they ask and follow the rules."

The Director-General can let you take indigenous freshwater fish if you ask them. You need to apply and they will decide if it is okay. They will say yes if taking the fish is consistent with the reason the land is protected and if you follow the rules.

The Director-General can also let you take fish from other freshwater areas that are not protected. They will say yes if taking the fish is consistent with how the area is managed and if you follow the rules. They can add conditions to their decision.

The Director-General gets to decide what conditions or restrictions you must follow if they say you can take the fish. You have to do what they say if you want to take indigenous freshwater fish. The Director-General's decision is based on the rules and the management of the area.
