79: Who may apply for temporary visa
or “Rules about who can ask for a temporary visa to enter or stay in New Zealand”

You could also call this:

“Temporary visa to cover you while your new visa application is being processed”

If you have a temporary visa and you’ve applied for another visa, you might be given an interim visa. This interim visa helps you stay legally in New Zealand while your new application is being looked at. You can’t ask for an interim visa yourself. The Minister or an immigration officer decides if you get one, and it’s completely up to them. If you do get an interim visa, you’re not allowed to apply for any other kind of visa while you have it.
