“Steps for refugee and protection officers when making decisions about refugee status”

When a refugee and protection officer is making a decision under section 143, 145, or 146, they need to follow certain steps. First, they must tell you what they are looking into. This is to make sure you know what’s happening.

Then, they have to follow some rules that are usually used when someone is making a claim to be a refugee. These rules are found in section 135, section 136(3), parts of section 138, and section 149. They will treat the matter they’re looking into as if it were a claim, and they will treat you as if you were making that claim.

These rules are there to make sure that the process is fair and that you understand what’s going on. They help to protect your rights while the officer is making their decision.
