Immigration Act 2009

Repeals, transitional provisions, saving provisions, and related matters - Transitional and savings provisions - Miscellaneous provisions

462: Immigration officers

You could also call this:

“Who immigration officers are and what they can do under the new law”

When the new law starts, immigration officers who were chosen under the old law will be treated as if they were chosen under the new law. This includes customs officers and other people who were made immigration officers before. These officers can make decisions about visas and letting people enter the country.

Also, when the new law starts, visa officers who were chosen under the old law will be treated as immigration officers under the new law. These officers can make decisions about visas for people outside New Zealand.

The boss of immigration can change their mind and take away someone’s job as an immigration officer if they need to.

The rules about immigration officers and visa officers changing to the new law still have to follow any special conditions that were set when they were first chosen for their jobs.
