Immigration Act 2009

Arrivals and departures - Obligations in relation to departure from New Zealand

120: Persons other than New Zealand citizens leaving New Zealand to allow biometric information to be collected

You could also call this:

“Non-citizens must provide biometric data when leaving New Zealand”

When you leave New Zealand and you’re not a New Zealand citizen, you need to let the authorities collect your biometric information. Biometric information includes things like your fingerprints or a scan of your face.

You must allow this information to be collected unless you have a special exemption. The rules about who doesn’t have to provide this information are written in another part of the law called section 400(l).

Remember, this rule only applies to people who are not New Zealand citizens. If you are a New Zealand citizen, you don’t need to provide this biometric information when you’re leaving the country.
