Immigration Act 2009

Refugee and protection status determinations

126: Recognition of refugees selected outside New Zealand

You could also call this:

“New Zealand accepts refugees chosen overseas without requiring a local application”

You can become a recognised refugee in New Zealand without having to apply for it here. This happens if you were already recognised as a refugee in another country and then brought to New Zealand as part of a special government programme. The government uses this programme to bring refugees to New Zealand based on their refugee status in other countries. This rule applies whether you came to New Zealand before or after this law was made.
