or “Immigration officers can get permission to search places for evidence of immigration-related crimes”

You could also call this:

“Immigration officers and department must keep certain information confidential”

If you’re an immigration officer or work for the Department, you have special rules about sharing information. When you get a document under section 275A, you can’t share any information from it unless two things are true:

  1. The sharing follows the rules in section 294AAB.

  2. The information is being used for one of these laws:

    • Immigration Act
    • Employment Relations Act 2000
    • Equal Pay Act 1972
    • Holidays Act 2003
    • Home and Community Support (Payment for Travel Between Clients) Settlement Act 2016
    • Minimum Wage Act 1983
    • Parental Leave and Employment Protection Act 1987
    • Support Workers (Pay Equity) Settlements Act 2017
    • Volunteers Employment Protection Act 1973
    • Wages Protection Act 1983

These rules help keep information private and make sure it’s only used for the right reasons.
