Immigration Act 2009

Deportation

153: Purpose of Part

You could also call this:

“This part explains why and how people may be required to leave New Zealand”

This part of the law is about making sure New Zealand’s immigration system works well and keeping the country safe. It explains how some people can be asked to leave New Zealand.

The law tells you when someone might have to leave New Zealand. It also says how the person will be told about this. You’ll learn what happens to the person after they’re told they have to leave.

Sometimes, a person can ask for their case to be looked at again. The law says when this is allowed. If the person doesn’t ask for their case to be looked at again, or if their request is turned down, they will have to leave New Zealand. The law makes sure this happens without any more questions.
