Immigration Act 2009

Visas - Classes of visa - Temporary entry class visas: provisions applying to limited visas

81: Who may apply for limited visa

You could also call this:

“Who can request a limited visa for entering or staying in New Zealand”

You can apply for a limited visa if you fit into one of these groups:

You are outside New Zealand and want to come here for a specific reason. This includes people who don’t need a visa to enter New Zealand.

You have just arrived in New Zealand and don’t need a visa to enter, but you want to stay for a specific reason.

You are already in New Zealand and either:

  • Have a current limited visa and need more time to finish what you came here to do, or
  • Have any other type of temporary visa, unless section 150 applies to you.
