151: Confidentiality to be maintained in respect of claimants, refugees, and protected persons
or “Keep details of asylum seekers and protected people private”

You could also call this:

“Government agencies can share information about refugees and asylum seekers”

When a refugee and protection officer or the Tribunal needs help to decide on a claim or look into a matter about a claimant, refugee, or protected person in New Zealand, they can ask for information from other government agencies. The people who work for these agencies are allowed to share information about the claimant, refugee, or protected person with the officer or Tribunal.

When asking for help, the officer or Tribunal must tell the person they’re asking about the rules for keeping information private. These rules are explained in section 151. They must also tell the person not to share certain types of information with anyone else, except in the ways that section 151(1) allows.

It’s important to know that when the officer or Tribunal asks for help like this, they’re not breaking the rules about keeping information private that are set out in section 151.
